After years of planning, and long months of waiting for the actual move-in date, the new Braunschweiger store in New Providence is NOW OPEN.

The finish line is in sight, and our beautiful new Braunschweiger store in New Providence will open for business in mid-November.

Anyone going by the building in the past several weeks has seen the near-constant buzz of activity as carpentry details, flooring, lighting and display cases were busily installed.

Meanwhile we are continuing to do business in our temporary space, and look forward to seeing our neighbors and customers there as well!

A great time was had by all as the Morristown store celebrated its 50th Anniversary with a gala party on October 24th. The large crowd in attendance thoroughly enjoyed the festivities, which included live jazz music, delicious food and champagne to toast the occasion.

A solid gold engraved badge presented to a Basking Ridge fire chief about 80 years ago has been returned to the Basking Ridge Fire Company. The badge, etched with the date of 1928, had been made for former chief John Pope, chief in 1928.

Do you have a golden opportunity sitting in your jewelry box? Now's the time to take advantage of record high gold prices. Let us give you a written offer to buy for any of your broken or unwanted jewelry that is out of date and out of fashion.

Although we encourage that our customers keep anything of sentimental value to pass on to a relative or dear friend, you probably have a few half pair of earrings that can no longer be worn or matched and perhaps a bracelet that broke years ago you never bothered to have fixed. If you've had a loved one pass away and are left holding a box of jewelry and you have no idea what it's worth, we can help you sort it all out.

If you are not near any of our stores, make sure you sell to a reputable jeweler. Prices being paid for gold should be posted in either grams (gr) or pennyweight (dwt). Scales to weigh scrap gold should have a certification by the state and an approval certificate nearby.

Morris County Chamber of Commerce Second Annual Sidewalk Golf Classic was a HUGE success! We had over 160 golfers come to our Morristown store on Friday, June 13 to try and putt a hole in one in order to win a Rolex watch. This chamber sponsored event was to benefit the Business & Education Together Foundation which mentors and educates our future work force.

We have successfully moved in to our temporary home in the Village Shopping Center. We took over the space that Village Pet Center once occupied and are now located between Hollywood Tans and Toys That Teach. Our temporary space is considerably smaller but we look forward to the near future when the construction of our new building begins this summer.

The long, bumpy ride is finally over. New Providence will have the quality shopping center it deserves and Braunschweiger Jewelers will have a beautiful new store in the town we’ve called home for over 40 years. The timing for the construction of our new store and the logistics of our move are still somewhat indefinite (I’m sure any of you that have built or renovated a house are all too familiar with that scenario). March 2008

This past December, in the middle of a busy Christmas season, Braunschweiger Jewelers had a first class emergency. A manager in one of our stores dropped to the floor and required immediate CPR. Within minutes, Bill Braunschweiger Jr and a customer were performing CPR, giving life saving breaths. Soon after, paramedics arrived and were able to shock the heart, stabilizing our manager.

February 2008

Red was certainly the fashion color of the evening at the 80th Academy Awards on Sunday, February 24, 2008. We saw both vibrant and deep shades on many actresses, including Ann Hathaway, Helen Mirren, Katherine Heigl, Miley Cyrus, Heidi Klum and Julie Christie. We’re not sure if this was just a general fashion statement, or if the campaign for women’s heart health awareness (the “red dress” campaign) was really the driving force behind it. Regardless, it was a welcome and distinct change from the all-white or pale colored theme that was popular in several of the recent awards shows. Whether or not this translates into jewelry as many other fashion color trends do will remain to be seen.

At the 2008 Grammy Awards this year, jewelry fashions were all about large or dangling earrings and multiple or bold bracelets. Nelly Furtado was the lone exception to break the general mold by wearing a bold coiled gold collar necklace.

The 2008 Screen Actor’s Guild (SAG) Awards proved that fashion is once again colorful for spring, and that other trends (like metallics, neutral whites) are still going strong. Jewelry fashions always follow clothing trends to a large degree, so what pops up on the runway eventually shows up in jewelers’ showcases.

New Providence

To Our Friends in New Providence and Surrounding Communities:

Good news! Braunschweiger Jewelers will not have to make the difficult decision to leave the home we’ve known for four decades.  We will remain in our current location until May 31, 2008, and then we will move into temporary space in the Village Shopping Center in the former “Blouse Town” space while our new permanent home is being built.  We had been eagerly awaiting the major renovation of the Village Shopping Center for over five years, knowing full well the positive effect it would have, not only on the retail shopping experience in New Providence but also on the town itself. Monday, October 15th
Morristown

On October 15th, a man attempted to steal 3 Rolex watches from our Morristown location. Employees were immediately suspicious of the man when he asked to see only the most expensive Rolex models and certain security procedures were silently set into motion. After asking to see yet another Rolex watch, the salesperson explained that it was against store policy to have multiple watches out of the case at once and indicated that he would have to hand the watches back before she would take another one out of the case.

At this point, the would-be robber started walking towards the front door and was confronted by store manager, Greg Kettle and still refused to give the watches back. Greg instructed someone to call the police. The man reacted by pushing Greg aside and running towards the door where Steve Connell, our service manager, had positioned himself. After a brief struggle, Greg, Steve and Bill Braunschweiger III subdued the would-be robber until police arrived on the scene. The watches were still tightly gripped in his hands.

For the second year in a row, John Hardy won the award for best silver jewelry at the Couture Jewelry Collection & Conference at the Wynn Las Vegas. The full article, along with other John Hardy news, can be found HERE.
