The Perfect Wedding Band

The Perfect Wedding Band

How to Pick the Perfect Wedding Band

With all the fanfare that goes into selecting an engagement ring, and the insanity that sometimes goes into planning a wedding, it’s easy to see how picking out a wedding band can get lost in the shuffle.

But this pre-nuptial purchase deserves some time of its own in the spotlight. Not only are your wedding bands a symbol of your love and commitment to one another—they are a piece of jewelry that you will both want to wear for the rest of your lives! It’s worth investing the time and effort to find something you love.

How do you select the perfect wedding band?

1. Think about how you’ll wear your ring.

Tradition dictates that a woman wears her wedding band on her left hand on the same finger as her engagement ring, with the band on the bottom, so it’s closest to her heart. If you are a traditional girl, you’ll want to find a band that will complement your sparkler. It will need to fit nicely beside your engagement ring, and you’ll probably want it to be crafted of the same metal.

But maybe you want to buck tradition and wear your rings separately. It’s a fashion-forward look that allows each piece to make a statement all its own. In this case, the look of your engagement ring doesn’t need to factor into your decision. You’ll have free reign to pick out a ring that can go it alone, or that will look good stacked with other rings down the road.

2. Don’t feel compelled to coordinate.

Maybe you think that the bling is the thing but your spouse-to-be thinks the simpler, the better. You’re a perfect pair, but your rings don’t have to be. Instead, decide that you’ll each select a ring that reflects your own personal taste. Worried that your rings won’t have anything in common? Think about adding a matching inscription of your initials or wedding date to both bands—it’s a romantic touch that will link your rings to one another but still allow you each to satisfy your individual style.

3. Try them on.

Just like your wedding dress, what you think you want, and what you ultimately end up purchasing, can be two very different things. You won’t know for sure until you get some rings on your finger. Don’t forget that there’s more to this decision than simply how the ring looks–while of course, you want to find something beautiful, there are other important factors to consider. Is it comfortable enough to wear every day? Does it fit into your lifestyle? Will it stand the test of time?

Choosing the right wedding band to express your commitment to one another is a big decision…but it doesn’t have to be a difficult one! Get your search for the perfect ring started here.
